Phillies’ second baseman Chase Utley is an all-star for animals

I am a long-time fan of the Kansas City Royals and Chicago Cubs, but after reading about Chase Utley’s fundraising, directed to the issue of cruelty to animals, the Phillies have suddenly risen on my favorites list.

Utley and his wife have been working with the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals to organize the annual Utley All-Star Animals event.

The Philadelphia second baseman focuses on the issue of animal cruelty, but the Examiner story linked above notes the issues of adoption and spay/neuter are also high on his list.

I’ve talked a lot over the years about the importance of being  a positive role model for kids. Utley is a standout big-leaguer in this area, in promoting kindness to animals to kids.
