Legislative news out of North Carolina

North Carolina Governor Bev Perdue is expected to sign Susie’s Law at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the governor’s mansion.

The new law will increase the penalties for animal cruelty.

And Kimberley Alboum, the North Carolina State Director of the Humane Society of the United States, is reporting Senate Bill 460 will not be heard in the State Finance Committee on Thursday. The meeting has been moved to 8:30 a..m June 30. As previously noted, the bill would regulate commercial dog breeding.

Some changes Alboum calls “minor” are being drafted.

I attended a press conference in Raleigh Tuesday morning and will have more from that event Wednesday morning.
