Is BP burning live sea turtles to death?

I’ve heard reports of this horror in recent days – with live sea turtles being burned to death during BP’s controlled burns of oil on the surface of the Gulf of Mexico.

The Animal Welfare Institute (AWI), Centre for Biological Diversity, Turtle Island Restoration Network and Animal Legal Defence Fund are teaming on a lawsuit filed Wednesday against BP. The filing states BP’s actions violate the Endangered Species Act and request a temporary restraining order, until such time when processes can be implemented to prevent turtle deaths.

One video report I recently viewed included information suggesting oil was being gathered up with tubing stretched between boats. And then, the gathered oil slick is set afire – with the turtles trapped in the thick, mass of material.

Do these people have any moral code at all? Or is profit their only god?
