174 horses rescued from slaughter at a Nevada auction event

What a great story. ABC News is reporting dozens of horses were rescued from possible slaughter when rescuers purchased 172 of them Saturday at an auction in Nevada. Two more were purchased by individuals.

The financial backing for the purchase came primary from Ellie Phipps Price, who owns Sand Hill Durell Vineyards in Sonoma, Calif. Also contributing financially to the rescue was Madeleine Pickens, wife T. Boone Pickens.

The horses had been rounded up in June by the US Bureau of Land Management.

Everyone involved in this effort deserves recognition for saving so many lives.
