“Letters for Pets” campaign over halfway to its goal

TAILS Pet Media Group, Inc. has launched a campaign to make every April 30 – “National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day.” To promote the effort, a goal of 100,000 has been set for “Letters for Pets” to President Obama. As of Thursday, over 60,000 e-mails had been sent to the White House, asking for a presidential proclamation for an official declaration of the special day.

The text of the letter to President Obama is available at LettersForPets.com and can be sent via the site or can be printed out and mailed the old-fashioned way.

Ellen Degeneres and her Halo pet food company are donating one meal to a shelter for every letter sent. And Letters for Pets” spokesperson Mimi Ausland of Freekibble.com’s will also help TAILS deliver up to 50,000 meals to shelter animals.

“We are receiving letters from adults and kids from around the country who want to help sheltered animals in need,” TAILS Founder Janice Brown said through a press release. “With so much negative news, I’m proud that Letters for Pets is bringing people together for a positive outcome. It’s wonderful!”

Brown is looking to raise awareness about the plight of the six to eight million dogs and cats per year that end up in shelters.
