West Virginia greyhound track to close for “overhaul” of the track surface

This just in: The Charleston Daily Mail out of West Virginia is reporting the Wheeling Island Hotel-Casino-Racetrack will halt racing for two separate time periods over the next couple of weeks to make repairs to the greyhound racetrack surface.

It seems there have been what the facility’s president calls “an inordinate number of injuries lately …” And he says they need to “do the right thing.” So the track needs what the Daily Mail story is calling “a substantial overhaul.”

Well … the right thing would be to shut down dog racing there and everywhere for good. Certainly, the right thing is not caging dogs for 20 hours each day or killing thousands each year across the country that are simply no longer profitable or killing those who are injured on the tracks no matter what the conditions are.
