NY county a step closer to creating an animal-abuse registry

The Law Blog on the Wall Street Journal website recently ran information about Suffolk County, NY’s move to create an animal-abuse registry.

Anyone convicted of animal cruelty would be required to report to the registry for five years and pay a $50 annual fee, which will go to maintenance costs for the system. I like the mention in the Wall Street Journal post about puppy mill and animal fighting operators being on the registry.

It also notes “registry bills have been introduced in six states.” This should be instituted in all 50 states. We need to take animal cruelty more seriously as a society and better-understand the link between animal cruelty and domestic violence and other serious crimes against people.
