Lincoln County (NC) animal shelter ordered to stop using its gas chamber

The Lincoln County animal shelter has been ordered by the State of North Carolina to stop using its gas chamber and has been fined $5,000 for violating the state’s Animal Welfare Act.

In addition, shelter supervisor Patty Lackey has been fired, according to reports on NewsAtNorman.com and LincolnTribune.com.

News@Norman noted – “The newspaper documented dozens of instances in which the shelter violated state laws including uncertified employees putting animals to death and poor record-keeping.”

All euthanasia procedures there are now being performed by injection. So often, shelters that use gas chambers claim it is not safe to use injections, yet there are so many shelters – in fact in North Carolina that do safely use injection.

Wow they were fined. Do they not know what stop doing something means. DO NOT GAS ANIMALS ITS WRONG!! They deserve a larger fine for caring so little to gas animals after it was ruled inhumane… Shame on Lincoln County NC.. However I’m not surprised. Most of the State of NC could care less about animal welfare which is wrong… As long as the citizens aren’t forced to see their cruelty they seem to not care that is is happening….. They keep paying taxes for these people to treat animals badly. Stand up for animal rights, even if they are not gassing, they need to improve the treatment and environment the animals are subjected to.

I live in Lincoln County and we didn’t know this was going on so don’t say that “if we don’t see it”. We struggle with our government here because we are kept aware of what is going on. I have actually had to persue many many avenues with different groups of governement because we have slackers in office. Don’t blame the citizens, please…

Wow I love how some people think you are directly talking about them. I don’t even know you nor was i speaking about your or anyone in general nor was I speaking only about Lincoln county. I was stating what had happened with their fine. No one blamed all citizens and yes if people would stand up for the animals and let the Animal control and state know they were not going to fund cruelty in shelters then they would be forced to change. Most people simply pay their taxes and are blind or would rather not think about the cruelty going on (out of sight out of mind) So it is a combo of citizens that should do more and gov officials who do not do what they should either. Why do you Rebecca take my comment personally, I do not know you nor do I care to.. Just because you are aware of the situation I hate to tell you not everyone does. It isn’t wide spread info on the news or anywhere about the cruelty. Our communities need to know what is really going on. Dont take a strangers comments personally, i don’t know you. And you can not speak for all citizens of the county. And don’t tell me or anyone that all citizens know. Cause I can assure you they do not. Yeah you didn’t know what was going on like other citizens… The citizens are the ones who can Demand Change, why not involve citizents, are they not the ones who vote for these slack officials? Plus do you even know what comment i was posting to……. it wasn’t a general statement. It is the job of all humans citizens or officials to demand and see to it that animals are treated well.

And just to point out another issue please read the following Story please. And to the Rebecca lady that flew off on me for a general post telling me not to blame the citizens. Well just scroll down to the comments below this story and you’ll see the lack of caring by some of your fellow citizens.. The problem in doing good for animals are people like these who are commenting. They see them as trash and something costing them money so the dogs are better dead. So before you Rebecca take up for your whole lincoln county community please make sure they are all in the fight to save the animals first then tell me I cant say shame on lincoln county. And in that case Shame on all AC in this area, they are no better than the other they are all cruel to the animals. Please take a stand only the citizens can demand changed. And its up to the citizens to make themselves aware of what is going on.
