AP/Petside.com poll – 60-plus percent of us believe we can communicate with our pets

Petside.com recently released the results of a poll taken in conjunction with the Associated Press. It seems 67 percent of those responding to the poll believe they can understand their pet’s language and 62 percent believe their pets can understand them.

The poll also found, unfortunately, that the state of the economy is impacting how much people are spending on pet care.

But on the subject of communicating with our pets – of course we do. New studies are putting a scientific spin on the topic. In the case of dogs and cats, humans have been living with them, domesticating them and evolving with them for thousands of years.

The evidence is showing that within our bond with domestic animals, we share communication capacities beyond the spoken word.
