California man gets four years for brutally beating his dog

The San Francisco Examiner is reporting an Oakland man recently received a sentence of four years in prison without parole for brutally beating his dog with a crow bar and an ax handle.

The judge and the district attorny are getting high praise from animal advocates – and rightfully so. Thankfully, neighbors allegedly videotaped the beatings. And fortunately, the pit bull has been adopted by a family and is recovering from the injuries.

Judges and DAs across the map need to follow this lead. And state and federal legislatures need to put in place this sort of sentencing guidelines, maybe even take it a step or two higher.
